Last week we staged a Las Vegas style poker evening at the BALTIC to thank fifty of our closest friends and clients for helping us become the top interactive agency in the North East.
TH_NK invited native North-Easterner and one time professional poker player Caspar Berry to host the event, in which his 'Poker Business Life' presentation brought alive the principles of business in relation to the game, followed by a nail biting poker tournament in which guests put their new found skills to the test.
As founder of successful Newcastle based production company, 21st Century Media, and having recently served as an advisor to the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, Caspar was well qualified to explain the concept of calculated risk to TH_NK's guests as they enjoyed an evening of exclusive hospitality.
As New Media sponsor of BALTIC's current urban art exhibition, 'Spank the Monkey', we staged our event across two floors of the gallery in the midst of work by infamous street artists such as Faile, Groovisions and Invader, against a backdrop of stunning views across the River Tyne.
Having listened carefully to Caspar's insights into the skills of calculated risk taking, guests turned their hands to the tournament itself, which became highly competitive as the top prize of a pair of flights to Las Vegas grew tantalisingly close.
The 50 players were whittled down to a final table of ten, with Alex Jobling of Eutechnyx narrowly beating Jude Leitch of The Gate to take top prize, who in turn took home a poker set in second place, with Martin Woodall from NAP Partnership earning a bottle of Champagne for his third place finish.
In a year which has seen us double both turnover and staff numbers, we have even more to celebrate this week having signed the lease on a state of the art office space in Newcastle's landmark 55 Degrees North building, reinforcing our ambitions to invest further in the region and help position the North East as a leading and recognised centre for digital industries.
We've had such a fantastic year here at TH_NK and are well aware that we wouldn't have got as far as we have without the support of our clients and the North East business community. A straightforward corporate event just doesn't fit with the TH_NK style of doing things, so hopefully our poker night gave our guests an inspiring insight into the decision making process we face each day in the world of business, but most importantly showed them a good time!
