Launching a fresh new website for NHS North East

We’ve just launched a new site for the North East Strategic Health Authority, the regional body that ensures health services in the North East of England are fit for purpose and adhere to quality targets which are defined by the Department of Health.

The North East Strategic Health Authority is one of ten strategic health authorities in England. They play a pivotal role in implementing national Department of Health policies in the North East and ensure NHS organisations in the region are providing good quality services to meet the needs of local communities. They are also the driving force behind public awareness campaigns such as ‘Scrub up’ and ‘Good news - you choose’.

Following the launch of the Newcastle Hospitals’ NHS Foundation Trust website in spring 2008, NHS North East approached TH_NK with a brief to create an interactive, engaging and fully accessible website to meet the needs of their business. Ultimately, they were looking for an informative and easy-to-use Web offering which could be easily updated by key members of staff on a regular basis.

The new website - www.northeast.nhs.uk - includes everything from facts about the region’s NHS, right thorough to the latest healthcare news, careers advice, and information about strategies, events and awareness campaigns in the North East. The site also features an interactive map which enables people to find healthcare services in their area at a glance.

We spent a great deal of time with NHS North East to understand their business and define the needs and aspirations they had for their new Web offering. The insight we gained from this collaboration helped us add value during every stage of the project, from the information architecture, right through to the design and build of the website. Not only does the new site look fabulous, but it’s also great to know that all of our hard work is already making a difference to healthcare services in the region.
