TH_NK was visited today by BBC North Director, Peter Salmon, and Dan Brain from project partners Northern Film&Media to see how we are creating exciting new content for the CBBC website under the @North initiative.
TH_NK has just won a commission from CBBC Controller, Damian Kavanagh, under the initiative which is providing £500,000 for digital companies across the North to make new interactive content for children.
Our commission is one of the first five to be announced and we will be producing interactive content aimed at the 6-12 age group for the CBBC website, one of the UK’s most popular for children. TH_NK’s winning creative pitch is for a jokes site specifically tailored to this age group and our newly commissioned work is likely to be seen on the CBBC website early in 2011.
The @North initiative has provided a valuable insight into how the BBC will work and engage with companies in the region to make the best content for audiences across the UK. I want to congratulate TH_NK on being part of the first wave of new commissions and look forward to seeing their creative ideas engaging with our young audiences.
Peter SalmonDirector, BBC North
@North represents a new model of how the BBC will engage with independent companies and digital agencies across the north of England as well as with the regional screen agencies - Northern Film &Media, Screen Yorkshire and Vision+Media (North West).
The @North digital initiative was launched by Peter Salmon in November 2009 to encourage and support the development and delivery of interactive content for CBBC and CBeebies. Northern Film&Media are one of the key partners in the @North initiative.
Being named as one of the agencies selected for @North was an honour. It has allowed us to get right to the heart of the Children’s department at the BBC. Our new project will take kids’ love of jokes into the online sphere and keep them laughing for longer.
